2023 Civic Type R Prototype Shown at Honda Indy 200

2023 Honda Civic Type-R

With the introduction of the newest generation Civic last year, performance car enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the next generation of the Honda Civic Type R. Set to go on sale next year, the new Civic Type R was shown in prototype form wrapped in a special camouflage at this yearā€™s Honda Indy 200.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R prototype completed a series of demonstration laps around the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course as part of its first-ever public appearance in the United States. The prototype was driven by vehicle dynamics engineer Chad Gilsinger from Hondaā€™s development center in Ohio, and was also driven as the lead vehicle at the start of the race.

Type R models have long been the pinnacle of Hondaā€™s performance vehicles, and the new Civic Type R will be the brandā€™s best performing version of that vehicle ever. The new Type R was redesigned from the ground up to deliver even greater performance on the road and on the track. Honda recently set a lap record for front-wheel drive cars at the legendary Suzuka Circuit in Japan, which is home to this yearā€™s Formula 1 Honda Japanese Grand Prix.

Along with the Civic Si and turbocharged versions of the Civic sedan and hatchback, the Civic Type R will round out the Civic performance car lineup. If you are interested in the new Type R, or any other performance vehicle from Honda, please contact us today at Ed Voyles Honda in Marietta, Georgia.
