Honda Announces Plans for Prologue Electric SUV

Prologue Logo

Honda recently announced that their first-ever all-electric SUV will be named Prologue, and it is expected to go on sale as a 2024 model year vehicle. The Prologue will be the first of a new series of Honda battery-electric vehicles which align with the company’s vision to reach 100 percent zero emission vehicle sales in North America by 2040.

Along with an all-electric SUV from Acura, the Honda Prologue will utilize the company’s highly flexible global EV platform and use Ultium batteries as part of its partnership with General Motors. Honda plans to launch a series of new electric vehicles based on the new e:Architecture.

“Our first volume Honda BEV will begin our transition to electrification and the name Honda Prologue signals the role it will play in leading to our zero-emission future,” said Dave Gardner of American Honda. “The Prologue will provide our customers with a battery-electric SUV with the excellent functionality and packaging they’ve come to expect from Honda.”

Honda plans for battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles to make up 40 percent of its sales in North America by 2030, and hopes to achieve complete carbon-neutrality by the year 2050. The company has already had many historic electric vehicle firsts, including the first hybrid vehicle with the Honda Insight in 1999, and the first fuel cell vehicle in the hands of customers with the FCX in 2002.
