Most Popular Cars For Winter Driving
With a bitter winter upon us, Atlanta area residents are surely considering which cars are best for driving on slick, slippery and now, snowy roads. Vehicles equipped with four-wheel drive, traction control, antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, stability control and rear window defrosters, offer the best defense against challenging winter driving conditions. According to public opinion surveys, several Honda models are top performers for snow driving.
Consumer Reports recently conducted a survey that examined SUV and wagon performance in the snow. The survey was based on 47,982 reader ratings of vehicles with all-wheel-drive systems, not riding on winter tires, that had been driven in the snow on a least six snowy days during 2014 – 2015. Over fifty top performing vehicles were identified by survey participants and of these the Honda Pilot, Honda Crosstour and Honda CR-V were included.
A similar study conducted by EBay Motors asked 1,400 people, who reside in the northern states, what vehicles they drive and how safe they feel when driving in the snow. Survey participants were also asked to provide their opinion on 13 specific vehicle models including those they owned. Among the list of the 13 best performing cars in the snow, were the Honda Odyssey and the Honda Civic.
What Matters Most When Driving In Snow?
The most important features on vehicles that will be driven on snowy roads are those that provide the best tire traction and vehicle stability. All-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles distribute power equally to each wheel allowing for more road grip, even if one or two wheels are positioned over a slippery surface. The addition of winter tires to any car, SUV or van will significantly increase traction even on the slickest road and will make just about any vehicle snow-worthy and safer to drive.
Advanced vehicle stability systems, like those found on Honda models, add an extra level of safety by providing extra braking to wheels and tires that slip on slick surfaces. Honda’s Vehicle Stability Assist feature accomplishes this and automatically reduces engine power in the event of oversteer or understeer situations. Most drivers who must drive in snowy conditions simply want to feel safe and avoid an accident. Our Honda Dealership near Atlanta can explain all of the standard and available features found on Honda cars, SUVs and vans that will do just that.
