2019 Honda Insight Debuts in New York
The all-new 2019 Honda Insight Production model has made its Global debut at the New York International Auto Show. This new model is the latest to join the expanding lineup of Honda’s electrified vehicles. The new Insight is powered by Honda’s innovative and efficient third generation two-motor hybrid system. It is positioned and priced between the Civic and Accord in Honda’s passenger car lineup.
With sleek exterior styling and a low, wide stance complimented by bold front fascia and Honda’s signature “flying wing” grille, the new Honda Insight is completely unlike its predecessors. Inside the cabin are ergonomically sculpted seats, a 7-inch TFT color digital driver’s meter, a soft-touch instrument panel and premium materials with authentic stitching. Its 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen is Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ ready and provides a variety of information and entertainment options.
Clever placement of the lithium-ion hybrid battery pack beneath the rear seats allows the new Insight to offer a spacious 15.1 cu.ft. of trunk space. It also allows for a convenient fold-down rear seat (60/40-split on EX and Touring trims) and remarkably versatile cargo space options.
“The Honda Insight shows consumers that the efficiency of a hybrid car doesn’t mean sacrificing style, refinement or performance,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “The Insight is another symbol of a new era in the evolution of Honda electrified vehicles, where customers can have everything they want with no compromises.”
The 2019 Honda Insight will be available in three trim levels: Insight LX, EX and Touring. Standard features on this new model include push-button start, 6-speaker audio system, full LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels and heated side mirrors as well as Bluetooth® and Pandora® compatibility. This exciting new model is expected to arrive at Honda dealerships nationally early this summer.

New Honda Accord Hybrid models also feature the Honda Sensing® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies including, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation, Collision Mitigation Braking System™, Lane Departure Warning, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Powered by Honda’s third generation two-motor hybrid powertrain, this model is one of the most efficient models to date. The 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC® Atkinson-cycle inline-4 engine with 40-percent thermal efficiency is paired with an electric propulsion motor that churns out 232 lb.-ft. of torque for a class-leading total system output of 212 horsepower. This innovative two-motor system operates seamlessly shifting between three different drive operations: EV Drive (100-percent electric motor), Hybrid Drive (electric motor and gasoline engine [driving the generator motor]) and Engine Drive (gasoline engine) to best accommodate specific driving conditions.
2018 Honda Accord Hybrid models have a 2.16 inch longer wheelbase and a 32-percent smaller intelligent power unit (IPU) that is now mounted under the rear floor instead of in the trunk. This allows for the inclusion of a 60/40-split rear seat and as much passenger and cargo space as is found in non-hybrid Accord models. New Honda Accord Hybrid owners will enjoy 122.3 cubic feet of interior space, 16.7 cubic feet of cargo space and 40.4 inches of rear legroom.

Honda Accord & Civic Type R Named “2018 AUTOMOBILE All-Stars”
Both the new 2018 Honda Accord and the 2018 Honda Civic Type R have recently been named by editors at AUTOMOBILE magazine as “2018 AUTOMOBILE All-Stars”. The well respected automotive magazine awards All-Star honors only to vehicles that are all-new, heavily revised or have newly significant model variants. These vehicles must also have been for sale in the U.S. within 12 months of All-Stars testing.
This year the 2018 Honda Accord was recognized for its spacious interior, intelligent engineering, efficient powertrain and nimble driving dynamics. The 2018 Honda Civic Type R was selected for its outstanding performance value, even compared to more expensive sports cars and was the only unanimous selection by AUTOMOBILE editors.
The new Honda Accord has recently been redesigned from the ground up with a lighter, more rigid body structure and a new chassis design. This model has new sleek and athletic body styling, new safety, driver-assistive and connectivity features. It is offered with a choice of two all-new high-torque VTEC® Turbo engines mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The new Accord is also available with a new generation of Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain.
As the most powerful Honda ever sold in America, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC direct-injected VTEC Turbo® engine with a peak output of 306 horsepower (SAE net) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net). When fully equipped this model has a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission, limited slip differential, Adaptive Damper System and a dual-axis strut front suspension design.
“To receive two All-Star nods in one year speaks to how special we think Honda’s recent offerings have been,” says Mike Floyd, AUTOMOBILE Editor-in-Chief. “The new 10th-generation Accord is a meticulously engineered sedan with soul, especially in Sport trim, and the Civic Type R is arguably the greatest performance car for the money available today. From family haulers to hauling butt, Honda continues to blow us – and the competition – away.”
